This shield is crafted from 18 gauge steel and is hand-painted with the Coat of Arms of King Edward III after he claimed the throne of France through his maternal lineage; the act which sparked the Hundred Years War. The quartered design is essentially a merging of the Lions Rampant on a red field of England with the Fleur de Lis of France over a field of azure. The same heraldry was also used by his son, Edward of Woodstock, the Black Prince.

The reverse of the shield is blackened and the grip is wood with steel side tabs.

Really nice shield The shield is really nice but I wish the painting was a bit better. Still it was definitely worth the Purchase. Despite the high cost of shipment from US to Norway but that was Expected :P So glad I found this site!

Shield should be wood not metal. Also the heraldry is a bit wrong for Edward III. In the 14th century France had more fleur de lis on their royal banner and so that was used on the quartering of Edwards arms of war. Charles VI reduced the fleur de lis to three. So Henry V’s arms of war had those three fleur de lis. It should be called Henry V’s shield not Edward III’s.
