The Parazonium was a blade worn as a sign of rank in Rome. The high ranking officers of the army carried the Parazonium and it seems to have been an old, traditional weapon even then. It is likely a style copied from the Greeks and their early Italian colonies. The blades were typically leaf-shaped with A bi-lobed or eagle pommel. Perhaps it was worn by Roman nobility and officers as a homage to the Homeric heroes? Roman statuary of Emperors and heroes routinely display the Parazonium.

This Parazonium from Deepeeka has an unsharpened blade of high carbon steel. A brass plate sits at the base of the blade atop the guard. The guard, grip and pommel are all of carved, layered bone. The pommel, built up from carved bone layers, is in the form of the Roman Eagle. It comes with a wood-core scabbard covered in red, textured leather with a brass throat, chape and hanging rings.
