This Greek Xiphos has a blade forged from EN45 high carbon steel. The grip is a composite with layers of bone and steel sturdily riveted to the thick blade tang. The scabbard is crafted from carved wood and is overlaid in leather and finished with brass fittings. The tip chape piece is made from bone fitted between stylized brass plates.

This Xiphos is patterned after numerous Xiphoi swords found in the Campovalano necroplis – an archeological site that was once part of an coastal Greek colony on the Adriatic side of the Italian peninsula. It is very close to the Alfadena necropolis, which also yielded many similar swords to excavators.

These Greek swords were interred with their warrior-owners after death and enough of them have been found to infer that this colony was able to create or source a substantial number of such swords. Clearly, the ability to produce large amounts of high quality swords was evident at this time and perhaps the swords were made by a number of specialized craftsman in a workshop atmosphere, instead of each one individually crafted by a solitary weaponsmith.

She’s a beaut………… Never handled one or had much interest in this type of sword , but this thing is pretty darned good work for deepeeka. If it was sharp, it would be tough in a fight. I would buy one just because it’s pretty, but it might get a complex of some kind hanging next to all my claymores and longswords. I would have given it a four star, but I have no experiences with it. Some of their better looking work.

Think I got a dud, but I love it!

I got this one a while back, must be nearly 4 years now, and it arrived quickly, well packaged, blunt, and seemingly well constructed.
      Except one thing…

I’d had a lot of luck against wooden weapons, watermelons, and pumpkins without sharpening, but the first time I gave this sword to a buddy of mine (who wasn’t a martial artist like myself) and he made an imperfect swing at a particularly tough pumpkin (his edge alignment was off), it crushed the pumpkin and bent nearly 90 degrees… and stayed there. Shocked, I bent it right back and it’s good as ever; but this is obviously a defectively soft blade.

Personally, I like it though! It reminds me of a bronze sword, bending and bending back, and it challenges me to keep my edge alignment PERFECT when striking literally anything, even swings in the air eventually bend mine if the edge isn’t on point.

Overall, 3 stars, under the belief that mine is not the norm and already this decent
