This Itak Tagalog sword by Traditional Filipino Weapons was crafted in the Philippines – it has a blade of sharp 5160/D2 high carbon steel – it has been tempered to a hard 58-60 HRC. The grip is of a native carved wood with a ridged back for an improved grip. The grip has been carved to fit the natural curvature of the hand and the placement of the fingers. The grip is surmounted by a dark metal guard. The blade has been securely riveted into place with a brass rivet.

The sword comes with a wooden scabbard with a clip which locks the sheathed sword in place by fitting over the lip of the guard – the sword can be then be released with a good pull to pop it from this lock.

Like many Filipino swords, the Itak Tagalog began as a tool; the Eastern Tagalog people used the Itak for harvesting root crops and slicing open coconuts. When the time came for war though the Itak could just as surely cut a foe in a manner akin to a coconut.

The Itak is solid and agile chopper with a vicious thrusting tip.

Please Note: Due to being crafted in a tropical environment with native woods, it is common for these weapons to develop thin, minor cracks in the wood and the scabbard as the woods adjust to our more temperate environment. Cracks in items sent to you will not be harmful to the structural integrity of the item. Also – The decorative rattan wrapping can be brittle and may crack or break.

It is recommended that a light coating of protective oil is used to protect the wood from dryness and cracking.
