The small Jungle Kukri by Ex-Gurkha Khukuri House has a blade of 5160 high carbon steel. The blade steel has been tempered to different hardnesses to optimize it for use – it has a hard edge of 58-60 HRC to create an edge that will resist dulling and a body and spine of 45-56 HRC and 22-25 HRC respectively. The softer steel in the spine ensures that the blade is not so hard as to be brittle and it allows the blade to better absorb shock. The steel has been decoratively etched and inlaid with brass on both sides.

The bolster and pommel cap are of brass and the grip is of carved rosewood. The scabbard had a wooden core of pinewood fitted together with traditional Nepalese Laha glue. It is overlaid with a layer of black leather and a protective brass tip. It has two fittings for the small utility knives. One, the Karda is a small utility knife and the thicker one, the Chakmak is used to aid in the sharpening of the Khukuri.

The Kukri is a fantastic chopping blade not only because of its weighted and wide tip, but the angle of the tip to the spine ensures that the user does not need to angle his wrist while striking, he can keep his wrist locked in line with his forearm to deliver a considerable amount of direct force onto the unfortunate target.

It’s a bit shoddy but it’s also cheap so ya know. For the price it’s worth it I think. It’s solid enough but the metal on the hilt was a little warped and needed to be re-peened a bit. The sheath was kinda falling apart but again it’s fine for the price. If you can I’d recommend spending a bit more for a better khukuri/machete type knife.
