This large Viking buckle is made of brass. It fits an approximately 1 3/16” (30.16 mm) wide belt.

Directions for Use and Tips: Brass fittings with pegs are intended to be riveted onto leather. For this we recommend using a brass washer and a ball peen hammer. When the leather and washer are in place the peg is lightly hammered until it mushrooms over the rivet to secure it into place.

Brass is softer than steel and care must be taken not to strike the pegs too hard – striking them with too great a force risks bending or breaking them. The rounded part of a ball peen hammer is useful for shaping the flattened mushroom head to get an optimal fit. Please Note that the brass pin must not extend too far past the leather and washer before hammering as only a small portion of the pin is needed to flatten and fit it to the leather. If the pins are too long you will risk bending or breaking them without getting a tight fit. If they are too long they can be cut down to a proper size before hammering.

Brass washers that can be used for this purpose are available separately in a thumbnail link on this page.

      Dissapointing From my other review:
Unfortunately- 1 because I really enjoy shopping at Kult of Athena, and
      2) typically have nothing bad to remark about their products have to leave a negative review about this piece.

      About this piece:

The four prongs shown on the back, presumably to peen over a washer to affix to the leather belt have a tendency to break, something I also found out when trying to affix these and other Lord of Battles belt fittings of similar construction to a strap of hand cut, dyed, and worked leather for Military through the Ages reenactment event at Colonial Jamestown. So I would avoid these to be honest. The prongs snapped when peening, rendering the product useless. Very disappointed as this looked like a nice buckle to use and I’m also grouchy I had already cut my leather for this belt, which now won’t work. Avoid these. You can’t even attach them to your belt.

Recently got my hands on this Viking buckle….absolutely in love with it!! Intricate details with great craftsmanship. Really sturdy and fits perfectly on my belt. The prongs are carefully shaped. I personally do not regret getting this artsy little piece! Added it to many costumes this summer and continue to do so….never came loose and showed no signs of wear. Overall, a great accessory for your Viking costume.
