Overview
Our sharpening service will provide a good serviceable edge on the blade. The result is typically “very sharp” with a small secondary bevel and a bit of an “apple seed” profile. The resulting edge is somewhat dependent on the particular blade. Some blades will take and hold sharper edges than others and the thickness of the blade will determine how wide the bevel will need to be. We adjust the angle of the edge to suit the specific blade and attempt to get as close to a bevel-less edge as possible without marring the surface of the blade.
The Sharpening Process
The sharpening service is done with a belt sander. The process involves many passes with sanding belts of various grits. The blades are rested between passes to prevent them from becoming hot and damaging their temper. By default we will sharpen as much of the blade as possible including any false edges if appropriate. If you have a different preference, feel free to make that request in the special instructions at check out. We can sharpen only the last half or third of an edge, for example. Our sword sharpening expert has personally sharpened several thousand swords at this point, so will provide you with a professional service.
What the Service is Not
The resulting edge will be “sword sharp” not razor sharp. Our goal is to provide you with a usable edge for cutting practice that will hold up to some use and not require constant re-sharpening. In other words, we intend to provide you with a serviceable weapon, not a personal grooming implement. The service will not provide a completely bevel-less edge. To create that type of edge will necessarily scratch up the blade surface and we lack the machinery and time to provide a full re-polishing of a blade’s surface. A service of that nature would be significantly more expensive as a great deal more time would be required. We do not offer this type of service at this time.
Disclaimer
We make no guarantee that the resulting edge will meet with your expectations. Every blade is different and some will take and hold a sharper edge than others, due to the blade material, heat treatment or geometry. Some customers can also have incorrect assumptions about sword sharpness and improper expectations as a result. All we can say for sure is that the resulting edge will be sharper than the default edge, in most cases, significantly so. We can not provide any refunds for the service once it has been completed, so consider it to be provided “as is”. That being said, if you are unhappy with the product for any reason, we do still allow you to return the item for a full refund, including the sharpening costs under our normal return policy. This does not apply to special sharpening requests, for example if we sharpen something specially for you that does not normally list that option on our site. The vast majority of our customers are happy with the results of the service, so as long as you keep the above mentioned in mind, we are confident you will be pleased with the results as well.

A High Quality, Fair Priced Reproduction! This is the only Legacy Arms sword that I own, but if this sword is a measure of the quality received for the money paid then I will surely be purchasing more Legacy products. The fit and balance of this piece is exceptional, which I am sure is the reason that Oakeshott raved about the performance of the original. This sword’s specs are all very similar to the sword after which it was modeled. It came with a decent edge that cut well out of the box and felt and handled very solidly.
I think that this is a fine entry level sword that can teach an enthusiast how it would have felt in the hands of a real warrior seven centuries ago!

Good blade! Bad finish!! I was looking very much forward to receiving the sword. The shipping was fast and the sword was well packaged. The blade was very nicely finished but I have butter knives that are sharper than the sword came out of the box !! But the blade is made of 5160 high carbon steel and after a little time spent reprofiling the edge and resharpening it was very nice and is one of my best cutters! The handle however is not wrapped with leather it is actually like a rubberized coating that after holding the sword for any extended period of time will leave black residue on your hands and the scabbard is coated in the same material. In the pictures of the sword you will see there is a metal plate between the wood of the handle and the pommel. The sword I received had no metal plate between the pommel and the handle so we had a very unfinished look to it, also it is probably worth mentioning that the peen on the pommel is well done but utilitarian so don’t expect it to be seamlessly finished. And the sword I received the pommel was bent off to one side in line with the edge so it has kind of a crooked look to it. All these issues aside the sword itself is almost from what I can tell indestructible I tested it out in the woods on on saplings and dead tree branches and I was not able to damage the edge of the blade or cause any kind of rolling of the edge at all so this sword is made a very good material but don’t expect it to be a showpiece. I wrapped the handle with leather added a sword frog and belt. I then polished the blade out all the way to 3000 grit sandpaper and the sword holds a razor edge with a mirror polish and is one of my favorite swords at this time even the crooked pommel kind of gives it some character!!!LoL! And after a mishap with my dog running into the room barking while I was sharpening the blade I ended up with five stitches in the back of my thumb so this sword has earned the name (Thumb biter) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:!! And yes I would recommend this sword to anyone wanting a very well-made strong blade for a good price!!

I LOVE THIS SWORD!!!
It is so solid I feel it could chop down a tree and still go into battle.
The balance is superb for a blade of its price. It is close to the guard, making it both nimble on the thrust and a competent chopper at the same time
I’m only taking off one star for the pretty substandard fake feeling (leather?) of the hilt, but that can be wrapped at a later date in good leather.
It’s not very sharp, but that’s pretty common in this price range and again, something that can be fixed.
Love it!!

This is a fantastic little sword. Really good quality steel really well put together. Great balance and a lot of fun you’re looking for a good short sore to practice with this is a great choice. Maybe shop around for a better price or something though.

Let me start by saying this is a good blade for the price, but mine had some issues. Haven’t cut with it yet but I can tell it’s a very sturdy build and mines scabbard fits great with nice retention. However, It came with a bend/twist in the blade. It isn’t bad enough to be unusable, but after paying full price, I would be sending it back for a new one if the product wasn’t back ordered at the time of this review.
All that being said, I do really like this sword and would love to give 5 stars, but can’t justify it for the warped blade. At this price point I don’t expect perfection but it should at least be straight. I’m surprised KoA overlooked the flaw. The blade I received should have been in the discount section.
