Made from strong polypropylene plastic, this training katana is fit for practice and costume. The grip is molded to simulate the fittings and texture of a tsuka-ito wrap and rayskin beneath. The sword has simulated wood grain in imitation of the traditional wood bokken used for training. The tsuba can be removed for ease of transportation.

Decent.. These are pretty good for throwaway sparring swords, but with the QC issues I’ve experienced, it seems likely that throwing them away happens alot. I recently bought two, one was fine(minus some chips from the faux wood grain process probably) and one came with a terribly loose tsuba. It was sliding off just by lightly tapping the hilt with my finger. For 18 bucks… ehh, i still sorta expect better. As far as sparring goes, they run a bit wild for hand shock, but otherwise seem fine. I only did some light sparring with a smaller friend though, so your millage might vary.

I serously can’t recommend this enough. I’ve used many practice Katana over the years, but this one is by far the best I’ve ever used. It weighs about as much as a good real one (Maybe a little off, but if so it’s pretty negligible). I’ve struck hard trees, hardwood training dummies and even some plate armor with it. Aside from some minor scuffing damage it’s in great shape. And best of all: It’s perfectly safe for sparring.

Better than Any Wooden Boken I have one of these, and I also have a wooden one. My experiences with this one have been much better than with the wooden one. To get this much quality for such a low price is very rare.
