Regenyei’s standard rapier is purpose built for HEMA sparring and tournaments and both robustly built and fitted with a flexible, back-rolled tip blade for safety. The edges are thickly blunted and despite the extra steel needed to made a safer blade, the sword is lively and well balanced. The blade is 51CrV4 High Carbon Spring Steel with a final tempered hardness of 49-51 HRc. The blade is anchored into the pommel with a peen over the pommel and the hilt components are crafted from heat treated steel with an antiqued, sandblasted finish and its swept rings and knuckleguard impart excellent protection and an elegant appearance. The hardwood grip is bound in tight cord for a sure grip.

      Practical and responsive.

Regenyei’s arms have been the staple of HEMA practice weapons for years now, so I had high expectations for their standard rapier, and it did not disappoint. The blade is very flexible, something that is a necessity when it comes to thrusting oriented weapons during sparring for safety reasons, yet it isn’t wobbly. That said, do take note it may take a set if left bent for extended periods of time, so it’d be a good idea to store it suspended.

The guard is properly made, it’s simple in its design but its proportions allow the use of protective gloves with it, being able to fit one finger over the guard and into the finger rings comfortably. Fitting two fingers however may be a bit difficult depending on the gloves used though.

The balance is perfect, it feels light and lively in the hand and allows for good point control, a very important feature in a weapon like this. Couldn’t recommend it more for safe HEMA practice.
