This blunted Steel Sparring Jian was designed by Scott M. Rodell specifically for Chinese martial arts practice and sparring. Rodell designed these Jian to provide a more realistic approximation of the handling of a sharp steel Jian over traditional wooden wasters whilst remaining a safe sparring sword with its blunted edges, rolled tip and a flexing temper to the steel blade.

The blade is crafted from 5160 high carbon steel – the thick edges not only protect your sparring partner, but they also ensure the blade can withstand extended usage in sparring, sport or stage combat. The end of the blade features a rolled tip. The guard and pommel are steel and the wooden grip is overlaid in rayskin and bound with knotted black cord.

Scott M. Rodell has a career in the Chinese martial arts that includes over thirty years of study in Yang Style Taijiquan. He has learned under the tutelage of several masters in both China and the USA. He is the founding Director of the Great River Taoist Center, which is headquartered in Virginia. He has also authored several books on the Chinese swordsmanship arts.
