This Ronin Katana Dojo Pro Tanto has a blade that is notably longer than most tanto. Straight-edged and thick spined, a Tanto like this is a good cutter, but truly excels at thrusting and penetrating into the weak points of armor. A handy weapon should a warrior find himself grappling and wrestling armored foes, or cutting down such targets in nighttime subterfuge. All black, this Tantos bat-themed fittings take inspiration from this nighttime predator which intuitively perceives its surroundings and strikes quickly and decisively.

The blade is forged from 1060 high carbon steel; the tsuba is iron and its habaki and seppa blade mountings are crafted from brass. The fuchi and kashira are blackened metal and the wooden tsuka has panels of genuine rayskin which are inlaid and blackened with lacquer. A tsuka ito wrap of knotted cord completes the grip.

The tanto is paired with a wooden saya scabbard which is finished with black lacquer and a sageo cord. A cloth dagger bag is included.

Ronin Katana Dojo Pro Tanto #4 Review

I can see why these are now backordered. I just got mine yesterday and this might be the buy of the century. Great blade and the wrap is very tight with very symmetrical diamonds and very nice fittings. Saya was a little loose on the habaki. The tsuka on mine was glued to the tang but with some persistence I was able to remove it and clean the glue out of the core. For about 1/2 hour of time I now feel like I got a $300 dollar tanto for $69. Sharpened up to scary sharp with no trouble. Today I was going to buy another one as a gift but now see I am on the dreaded waitlist. Easy 5 star rating if they had left the glue out of the Tsuka.
