Inspired by the famous Thames Scramaseax on display at the British Museum comes this runic Longseax by Windlass Steelcrafts. The blade is forged from 1065 high carbon steel and it is etched on both sides with extensive runic inscription.

The guard and pommel are steel and the wooden grip is bound and overlaid with bands of supple brown leather. The scabbard is crafted from sturdy, thickly-stitched leather with integrated belt hanging loops.

Pretty good piece It shipped out quickly and in great packaging. The sword itself has a comfortable grip of an appropriate length and is not overly blade heavy and the balance feels just right. I haven’t tested it on any targets yet but it should stand up to appropriate use. There is a bit of a gap in the hilt which means it will likely come loose in the future. The all leather scabbard clings to the sword very tightly as well. You won’t have to worry about the sword falling out but you will have to tug a bit for it to come out.
      tl;dr For under $200 you’re getting a good deal.

Good looking, functional, affordable. Well worth the price. Solid to High 4/5.

This seax bears an appropriate weight for what it is, and from what I’ve seen bears a fairly close resemblence to the piece it is based on (I’m unsure if the guard and pommel are appropriate but that’s neither here nor there; functionally they improve it for thrusting and cutting) The gap between the guard and blade is fairly substantial and occupied by what seems to be filler, not very good looking or good for durability but it does the job. The runes are nicely engraved but when oiling the blade after use I did find some of the black from the markings coming off on the cloth, but it wasn’t substantial and didn’t affect the look. The peen on my particular seax wasn’t perfect, there were some very small holes where the tang hadn’t quite been hammered over the gap in the pommel, but some filler with easily fix that.

I purchased mine with sharpening, and the edge mine arrived with was good, it performed admirably in light cutting tests slicing through water bottles thick and thin with ease. On heavier cutting tests against wood it held up very well; the wood I went for was dead but still slightly green and it cuts relatively deep and the edge only sustained extremely minor deformation that is almost unnoticable. The grip is comfortable and provides a lot of friction to hold the blade with, it’s not loose and I haven’t had any problems with it. The sheath is alright as well, though it is very tight on the blade, to the point were it takes a fair amount of effort with both hands to remove or replace the seax from it, and being just leather whilst it is historical it’s not ideal from a practical standpoint. I do like the loops to put it on a belt though, that’s a nice touch.

All in all my first statement stands. This is well worth the price, and I don’t think any Dark Age Dane would be ashamed of such a good looking, effective seax.

Great Seax Very sharp, and nicely finished. She has a good balance and feels like a capable tool. The wrap on the grip is nicely done and feels sturdy. KOA completec my order and I received my seax in under 10 days, sharpened.

seaxy seax This is an EXCELLENT weapon.Sharpened it cuts like a laser.Tough point will penetrate most armor.Good sheath.Have a few horns of ale or mead after you
whack a few targets with it.

Home Defense I love this thing. Easy to manipulate, durable, good cut and thrust. Good balance of length and weight, not too long. Good with hammer grip but also can use handshake and saber grips. Pommel aids indexing and can sit in palm of the hand with saber grip, pinky between pommel protrusions. Spine reinforces the point, allows easy half-swording in CQB. Peened, good steel.
