Overview
Our sharpening service will provide a good serviceable edge on the blade. The result is typically “very sharp” with a small secondary bevel and a bit of an “apple seed” profile. The resulting edge is somewhat dependent on the particular blade. Some blades will take and hold sharper edges than others and the thickness of the blade will determine how wide the bevel will need to be. We adjust the angle of the edge to suit the specific blade and attempt to get as close to a bevel-less edge as possible without marring the surface of the blade.
The Sharpening Process
The sharpening service is done with a belt sander. The process involves many passes with sanding belts of various grits. The blades are rested between passes to prevent them from becoming hot and damaging their temper. By default we will sharpen as much of the blade as possible including any false edges if appropriate. If you have a different preference, feel free to make that request in the special instructions at check out. We can sharpen only the last half or third of an edge, for example. Our sword sharpening expert has personally sharpened several thousand swords at this point, so will provide you with a professional service.
What the Service is Not
The resulting edge will be “sword sharp” not razor sharp. Our goal is to provide you with a usable edge for cutting practice that will hold up to some use and not require constant re-sharpening. In other words, we intend to provide you with a serviceable weapon, not a personal grooming implement. The service will not provide a completely bevel-less edge. To create that type of edge will necessarily scratch up the blade surface and we lack the machinery and time to provide a full re-polishing of a blade’s surface. A service of that nature would be significantly more expensive as a great deal more time would be required. We do not offer this type of service at this time.
Disclaimer
We make no guarantee that the resulting edge will meet with your expectations. Every blade is different and some will take and hold a sharper edge than others, due to the blade material, heat treatment or geometry. Some customers can also have incorrect assumptions about sword sharpness and improper expectations as a result. All we can say for sure is that the resulting edge will be sharper than the default edge, in most cases, significantly so. We can not provide any refunds for the service once it has been completed, so consider it to be provided “as is”. That being said, if you are unhappy with the product for any reason, we do still allow you to return the item for a full refund, including the sharpening costs under our normal return policy. This does not apply to special sharpening requests, for example if we sharpen something specially for you that does not normally list that option on our site. The vast majority of our customers are happy with the results of the service, so as long as you keep the above mentioned in mind, we are confident you will be pleased with the results as well.

First Sword! One of the best purchases I have ever made! I have primarily used it to swing at and chop training dummies, but it also serves as decor whenever it is not in use. So far, I have had to settle with cardboard boxes because I cannot afford to keep replacing anything but cardboard. But it’s still very fun!
My only complaint would be to put the branding on the scabbard and not on the blade, it really takes away from the beauty of it.
My review sits at 5 stars, but would more accurately be at a 4.7/5.
Maybe I will make a video, who knows.

Great cutter, could do with improvements This sword is a blackened version of the “Classic medieval sword” by the same company. Its well made and rock solid, and the edge geometry is decent enough to cut through a wide array of targets. The fuller groove is straight and consistent so no problems there. Glaring problems exist though. For one the balance could be made better by thinning out the guard and increasing the size of the pommel. Also, the blade should be shorter, as its longer than the bastard sword of the battlecry line. (This is also a cause of the balance issue). Other than that nothing is wrong with it. High quality sword all in all.

Just Awesome! Received the Acre today, and I am really pleased. What a beauty, and the price, … just amazing. The bar has been raised in the mid price sword arena, with these swords. I have had high dollar swords in the past, and they were outstanding, but with price tags $1500 to $3000, and I found I had just as much enjoyment collecting mid price swords such as the battlecry Acre. You are passing up a bargain if you pass up these swords.

Really Nice Sword You can’t beat this Sword, for the money. Now some may be turned off by the blackened effect, but it has an old look to it, not a perfect shiny lacquered look like some other make black swords. This sword feels good in the hand, and it looks like Windlass has stepped up their quality control on this line everything is tight and aligned. Pretty sharp out of the box which is nice too. Scabbard, ….. it is what it is, nothing to brag Home about, but functional for sure. Over all, I am very pleased with this sword and would recommend it highly.

Beautiful You’ll be impressed how this blade handles, it’s a cut above for its price I’m impressed with the battle cry series and I’ll recommend it to anyone on the fence about it!

Excellent blade Blade came quickly and well oiled, edge was a little dull but easy to sharpen. No warps, and using against trees, tatami mats, stumps, and foliage was resulted in no edge damage or warpage. Very tough, decent balance, heavy slasher with a decent tip for thrusts. Well built and tanky. Would recomend.

I just got this sword and I am already In love with it. I cannot give specific details on which parts of the sword are great because this is the first actual good sword I’ve purchased. I have always loved swords since I was a kid, but could only afford the cheaply made katanas and those obviously are not very fun to mess around with since they are wobbly and unbalanced and such. With this sword I will say the only slight downside is that it is a bit on the heavy side while weilding with one hand, but if your hands aren’t really large you should be able to two hand it with one hand on the pommel. I didn’t pay for the sharpening service and it cut and stabbed through a milk jug filled with water with ease. A big plus too is it just looks so damn cool. The finish is beautiful and I’ll definitely be practicing with it as well as hanging up on my wall as a decorative piece. The sheath is also very nice, the blade fits in there very snug. Also comes with a nice leather scabbard. I’ll also mention that they’re based 40 miles outside of Chicago I believe and I live in east Texas and it only took 6 days to get to me from the day I purchased it. I’m gonna give it a 5 star even though like I said it’s a bit heavy for 1 handing at first but it’s definitely not something you can’t just use more and get strong enough to wield it. Overall great sword!
