This Darksword 15th Century Hand and a Half sword has a blade crafted from 5160 high carbon steel. The blade has been dual-tempered to have a softer core and a harder edge to create a sword that can both flex at its core, yet retain a hard and sharp dull-resistant edge. The core is tempered to 48-50 HRC and the blade edge is tempered to 60 HRC.

The crossguard and pommel are of steel and the grip if wood is wrapped in brown leather. The scabbard is of wood that has been overlaid with brown leather and fitted with a steel chape piece.

The Hand and a Half sword is easily one of the most versatile of medieval swords – it has a blade length and grip that allow it to be used in a manner like a longsword and allows for more advanced techniques like half-swording. A good Hand and a Half sword will have a tapered grip and a good overall balance that allows for it to be used in one hand if needed, which is useful for a man on horseback. This Hand and a Half sword by Darksword is one such weapon and a stout arm can use it single-handedly, though greater speed and power is achieved with the use of both hands.
