The Darksword Armory Alexandria Sword is Darksword’s recreation of one of the most famous 15th century swords; An Oakeshott Type XVIIIc sword which was interred and preserved in the Mameluke Armory at Alexandria. It is not known with certainty whether this sword and others very similar to it were diplomatic gifts from the Kingdom of Cyprus or were instead war trophies, but the Mamelukes recorded and dated the acceptance of the sword into the armory directly on the blade itself and this inscription is closely reproduced on this replica at the base of the blade on a single side.

The sharpened blade is forged from 5160 high carbon steel and it has been dual-tempered to possess hardened and dull-resistant blade edges of 60 HRc steel and a softer and more resilient steel core of 48-50 HRc. The fairly stiff blade is well suited for powerful cuts and thrusts alike and in capable hands this would have been a fierce weapon on both the battlefield or judicial duel. The crossguard and pommel are crafted from steel and the wooden grip is tightly wrapped in leather to complete the sword. A robust peen over the peen block gives the sword a strong and durable overall construction.

Included with the sword is a wood-core scabbard which is bound in leather and fitted with a protective steel chape.
