“There is malice in this sword. The dark heart of the smith still dwells in it. It will not love the hand it serves, neither will it abide with you long.”

Inspired by the legendary sword Gurthang in Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, Gurthang was a sword forged by the Dark Elf Eöl and was most famously wielded by the tragic hero Túrin Turambar. The sword had a dark personality and thirsted for blood and war, and beneath its blade many Orcs were slain, and even Glaurung, Father of Dragons was slain by the blade. This fully- functional fantasy sword has a blade of well-tempered 5160 high carbon steel with an edge hardness of 60 HRc and a midsection of 50 HRc.

The hilt of the sword is fully imbued in Tolkien elven character with its Elven script on both sides of its steel guard. The grip is of well carved and finely polished dark hardwood and the blade is mounted into the hilt with a peen over its steel pommel. This is a fairly large and wide bladed longsword, but its dual fullers reduce considerable weight and coupled with a long grip for leverage the sword is surprisingly lively in the hand while still maintaining an authoritative presence and heft. Included is a wood-core scabbard which is bound in leather and completed with a protective steel chape and an integrated sword belt of thick leather.

Beautiful sword it came meticulously wrapped from KOA. Added sharpening service to it and sword won’t cut paper but to my understanding you don’t want a real fine edge. Sword and scabbard are flawless (for the most part). Great buy for for the money I cannot complain about anything other than two gripes that I have but one is personal preference the other being very slight imperfections.

1st one which is personal preference is how slim the handle feels in my hand. I am not very tall only being 5’10 but I have monkey hands.
2nd one being the polish seems to stop right by the hand guard there are two areas that are not as polished as the rest of the sword which also drew my attention to what looks like some sort of black epoxy which is between the blade and the guard. Please know it is very minor things over all I am very happy. I don’t plan on cutting with it but who knows. This blade will look great on display.
