This Greek Xiphos has a leaf blade forged from high carbon steel; the hilt is steel with carved wood riveted to a thick tang to construct the grip. A steel guard and pommel cap complete the hilt.

The scabbard is handcrafted from wood and bound in leather; the chape and locket are carved from wood and the brass hanging rings are integrated onto the scabbard with leather wraps.

This Xiphos is replicated from surviving historical designs; its blade exhibits notable distal taper which ensures that it is a swift and agile performer. The well-carved and contoured grip fits nicely into the palm.

The Xiphos was commonly depicted as the sword and sidearm of the Greek heroes. Whilst most Greek warriors fought primarily with shield and spear, the usefulness of a sidearm sword cannot be understanded – even in a phalanx a hoplite needs a back-up weapon, or a weapon better suited for close-quarters combat in cramped conditions which do not benefit the spear.

Not merely a weapon for the Hoplites, Greek peltasts and cavalrymen needed a good sword so as to best adapt to changing situations in battle.

Beautiful sword, Sturdy. The sharpening done to it was fantastic. The only things I noticed was a little bit of pitting at the base of the blade, and the scabbard is not perfectly aligned. Other than that, the Greek Xiphos is fantastic, and the scabbard is beautiful and vibrant. Great purchase.
