Hanwei – Shamshir

The Hanwei Shamshir has a sharp and well tempered blade of 5160 high carbon steel which is well suited for quick and deep cuts and when in capable hands it is a surprisingly able thrust and puncture sword as well. The guard is antiqued stainless steel and the grip is two halves of finely polished wood which are directly integrated into the thick tang with a pinned assembly. The sword is matched with a wood core scabbard which is bound in stitched leather and completed with antiqued stainless steel fittings to match the sword.

Though the shamshir is quintessentially Persian in its origins, its efficient design swiftly permeated the Middle East, gracing the warriors of the Ottoman Empire and the illustrious Mameluke cavalry. Exemplars of the shamshir often showcase remarkable craftsmanship in both blade quality and ornate detailing, yet even the more austere versions exhibit a refined elegance in their lines and form.

The curved blade of the shamshir, or scimitar, is not only a visual marvel but a masterful instrument of war. Its unique curvature facilitates deep, swift cuts; as the blade slices through the target, the angle of the tip ensures wounds are maximized in their depth.
