This immaculately embellished French Napoleonic Saber would have been fitting for a General or even a Marshal of Napoleon’s La Grande Armée and although such high levels of ornamentation were regulated in the French Army its highest ranking and wealthiest officers inevitably used their influence to get around the regulations and endow themselves with the finest and most prestigious swords that they could commission; no expense would be spared on  adornment, gilt and inscription. Though these swords were a bold display of rank and status, the skilled bladesmiths and cutlers who fashioned them took care to ensure they remained capable and deadly weapons.

This sword is reproduced from an original and its tempered blade is forged from 1055 high carbon steel and features blued-and-gilt  embellishment at the base of the blade which was achieved by heat-bluing the steel and completing it with gold tone etching on both sides which features the sigils and symbols of the French Empire. Depending upon how it catches the light the bluing can vary from deep blue-black to a teal blue to the eye. The hilt is crafted from well-cast and highly detailed brass and the meticulously carved grip is of blackened wood.

The sword is matched with a blued and antiqued scabbard which is completed with cast brass fittings and brass hanging rings.

Please Note: If optional sharpening is selected we will not sharpen the blued part of the sword by default.
