This dagger is based on an original 16th Century German dagger from Saxony of the Holy Roman Empire; it has a blade forged from 1075 high carbon steel; the edges of the blade are blunted and the tip is rounded, making it suitable for stage and sport combat.

The guard with its distinctive side-ring are of mild steel, as is the pommel. The wooden grip is blackened. A stitched sheath with hanging belt loop comes with this dagger, allowing it to be worn as a sidearm off the belt.

1 review for Saxon Parrying Dagger

Take the time and read this review. This is a good dagger. However, there are glaring issues with the actual carrying as a sidearm.
First off, this weapon is well balanced for a parrying dagger but the pommel makes for a massive counter weight. When worn on the belt, the pommel wants to trade places with the point as the scabbard will not secure the blade in a stable and upright position when moving. I am currently considering shaving off a significant amount of weight from the pommel to move the POB closer to the tip to stabilize the blade when worn. I have attempted to attatch the scabbard with a thigh strap but due to the length of the blade, the strap falls down past my knee when moving.
For the blade itself, it is a sturdy blade and I only have a single nick on the edge as the blade does come sharp. To prepare the weapon for use, I had to take a grinder and round off the edges and point significantly as the tip is battle ready.
Overall, the finish and design is well-done but the engineering behind carrying this dagger is poor at best. I will put much more work into fastening this securely before I consider field use.
