The Maeg – Celtic Anthropomorphic Dagger

Hand forged and cast by Wulflund of the Czech Republic this Celtic Anthropomorphic Dagger is based on an original found in North Yorkshire in 1902. It was a grave good of a Celtic Warrior who was also put to rest with a shield, sword and a flank of pork.

The dagger has a blade of tempered 14260 high carbon steel. The blade was intentionally forged with some small pitted marks and some rough-polished patches at the base to emphasize the handcrafted origin of the blade and to give it an essence of the Iron Age. The highly detailed hilt is cast from bronze.

A warrior culture such as the Celts clearly revered their weapons; for not only do they appear to have often been used as items worthy of bestowing unto the Gods as sacrifice, but they also display some of the greatest skill and creativity of Celtic metallurgy and craftsmanship. A substantial amount of these anthropomorphic swords and daggers have been found with the hilt in symbolic emulation of the human form and among these can be found examples that are regarded as some of the finest examples of iron age metalwork, particularly examples dating to around the 2nd century BC.

Celtic culture was widespread at this time, and examples of these distinct weapons have been found from as far east as the Balkans to the Northwestern shores of Ireland.

Please Note: This sword has a sharpened edge, but it is quite dull by default. The point of the tip is quite sharp by default. If you desire for the sword to have sharp cutting edges, then our sharpening service is recommended to refine the secondary bevel of the blade.
