This Rondel dagger would look right at home in the steel-clad hands of a German knight; its form is both a combination of practical battlefield utility matched with intimidating gothic styling! This rondel is essentially a composite of features from two historical German examples from the Rothenburg collection which are dated to 1425 – 1450.

The blade is EN45 high carbon steel and its clipped-spine form gives it a wide and durable base which then aggressively tapers to a stout piercing point which is kept rigid by a thick spine. This dagger is purpose-designed to be a powerful puncturing weapon and its long single-edge gives it capable cutting ability as well. The rondels are steel with filework embellishment and the grip is hardwood which is festooned with steel studs to give its bearer a very secure grip. It may appear uncomfortable to hold but it actually feels secure and capable in the hand. The dagger is anchored into the hilt with a peen over a nut on the pommel.

Included with the dagger is a double-layered scabbard of vegetable tanned leather. It has a chape of brass and two leather cords to fasten it to your arming belt. A variety of dyed colors are available as well as a plain undyed version which you can dye to your preferred color or simply darkened with oil for a natural finish.

Really quite nice you can see some glue where the rondel guard receives the blade. Needs a bit of honing when you get it. However it is very comfortable in the average hand. The studs make the grip feel secure and are surprisingly comfortable. If one has a very large bear paw for a hand it might not be for you, but for average to smaller hands very comfortable. The blade is absolutely vicious and well made the rondels are simple yet handsome. I very much enjoy this piece.
