Introducing the Signature Series by Windlass! All-time favorites, reissued by Windlass Steelcrafts® with several upgrades! For the Sword of Roven, the blade now has improved distal taper to make it more agile and responsive, and the steel itself was improved with the use of higher carbon steel, which was also sharpened and well tempered. The guard and pommel are resilient steel, and the wooden grip was bound in “wet-wrap” leather which was wrapped in a tight cord and left to dry, leaving a cord wrap texture when unwrapped to give a more tactile grip to the bearer. A final solid upgrade was to replace the soft leather sheath with a hard core wooden scabbard, bound in leather and completed with steel accents.
This early 15th century longsword is of a practical, yet elegant design built for rigors of war and campaign for a professional warrior. The blade is forged from high carbon steel and has a complex, multi-fullered design combined with a thick ricasso at the base of the blade. The grooves reduce unneeded weight and the thickened ricasso greatly aids in stiffening the blade and imparting additional durability. This ricasso serves as a great hand-hold from which to grip the blade for half-swording techniques and when used in this manner the flared pommel acts as a superb anchor for the other hand for a widened and stabilized grip – ideal for combat in closer quarters or to deliver a powerful and controlled thrust to a target. Altogether these blade design elements create a versatile longsword which lends itself well to the cut and thrust alike.
